เอ่อ..ชื่อรีวิวได้แค่นี้ ขอย่อประเทศสิงคโปร์ เป็นแค่สิงค์นะคะ ไม่ว่ากันนะคะ แหะๆ

ก่อนอื่นก็สวัสดีตามธรรมเนียมนะคะ

เนื่องด้วยเมื่อเดือนมิถุนายนที่ผ่านมา ข้าพเจ้าจับพลัดจับผลู มีคนชวนไปร่วมงาน Nokia Connection 09 ที่สิงคโปร์ค่ะ

ซึ่งเค้าเชิญไปในฐานะบล็อกเกอร์ ซึ่งถือว่าเป็นสื่อมวลชนคนหนึ่ง
(เพิ่งจะได้ขุดวิชาสื่อฯ ที่เรียนมาทั้งตรีและโทมาใช้ก็งานนี้แหละ

)

ก็เลยได้มีโอกาสไปสิงคโปร์แบบเดี่ยวๆ
ที่ไม่ได้ไปเที่ยว (กับคุณแฟน) หรือไปทำงาน (ในฐานะหัวหน้าทัวร์) เหมือนที่ผ่านมาค่ะ

โดยไปครั้งนี้ก็ไปทั้งหมด 3 วัน 2 คืน ซึ่งกำหนดการในวันแรก บินไปถึงก็บ่ายๆ ตีเข้าโรงแรม พักผ่อนตามอัธยาศัย

เย็นย่ำก็ดินเนอร์ร่วมกัน

วันที่สองร่วมงานโนเกียคอนเนคชั่น ดินเนอร์ปาร์ตี้

วันรุ่งขึ้นเป็นกิจกรรมแอดเวนเจอร์ กินกลางวันด้วยกัน ก่อนบินกลับเย็นๆ ค่ะ

แต่ทั้งหมดทั้งมวลนี้ ข้าพเจ้าก็ใช้เวลาว่างที่พอจะมี ไปเก็บที่เที่ยวเพื่อมารีวิวลงเว็บทั้งหมดดังนี้
(ไม่รวมในโปรแกรมที่เค้ามีอยู่แล้วนะคะ อย่าง party@Peranakan Museum ซึ่งจะรีวิวด้วย)

1. Singapore Flyer (ได้ขึ้นซะทีวุ้ย มาล่าสุดมันยังไม่สร้าง)
2. วัดพระเขี้ยวแก้ว
3. พิพิธภัณฑ์แห่งชาติสิงคโปร์

ดังนั้นทริปนี้จะมีรีวิวทั้งสามอันบน สายการบินไป-กลับ Swissotel the Stamford (ที่พักของทริปนี้) และปาร์ตี้ที่เพรานากันนะคะ

ว่าแล้วก็มาเริ่มกันเลยแล้วกันค่ะ

เช้าวันอาทิตย์ รถราในท้องถนนไม่มากมายนัก นัดกับคุณหนิง ผู้ประสานงานโนเกียที่เคาน์เตอร์ของสายการบินสิงคโปร์แอร์ไลน์ นั่นก็คือเคาน์เตอร์ K และด้วยที่ครั้งนี้สารถีไม่อยู่ เราจึงต้องนั่งแท็กซี่ไปเอง และทำให้ได้เห็นความแปลกของการท่าอากาศยาน ที่เล่นเอารั้วกั้นซะยาวววววววววววววว จนทำให้แท็กซี่ ถ้าไม่จอดส่งตรงประตู 1 แล้วก็ต้องไปโน่นนนนนนนนนเลย ประตู 9

ทำให้เราต้องเข็นกระเป๋าปุเลงๆ มาจากประตู 9 เพื่อมาที่เคาน์เตอร์ K ซึ่งที่จริงถ้าได้เข้าประตู 5 จะตรงเป๊ะเลยด้วยซ้ำ

(หรือการท่าฯ ได้ทำการร่วมมือกับสสส. เลยวางแผนให้ผู้โดยสารได้ออกกำลังกายคะ ถ้าเป็นเช่นนั้นจะได้พยักหน้าหงึกหงักด้วยความเข้าใจ )

อ้อๆๆ รีวิวนี้ยาวเหยียดเช่นเคยนะคะ ไปทานข้าวเรียบร้อยก่อนแล้วค่อยกลับมาดูกันก็ได้ค่ะ แหะๆ

เข้ามาประตู 9 ก็ไปดูที่บอร์ดเพื่อความแน่ใจอีกที (เราน่ะ ความจำปลาทองค่ะ เหอๆ)

รูปบน เป็นอีกไฟลท์ค่ะ ไฟลท์ 13.00 คือ SQ 975 แต่เราน่ะบิน SQ 973 เวลา 11.15 น.ค่ะ

แต่ก็ต้องไปเคาน์เตอร์ K ทั้งคู่แหละนะคะ

ครั้งแรกไม่แน่ใจว่าจะมีโอกาสได้นั่งในครั้งต่อไปหรือเปล่า

'หวัดดีครับ
หลังจากที่ตั้งหน้าตั้งตารอคอยมานานกว่าสองเดือนในที่สุดก็เวลาแห่งการรอคอยก็ได้มาถึง
กับการเดินทางครั้งแรกบน SQ-A380 SUITES - A Class Beyond First
แต่กว่าจะได้เดินทางนี่มีอุปสรรคมากมายเกินคาดหมาย
จากแรกเริ่มที่ SQ ออเนอร์บุ๊คกิ้งคลาสจาก A-Discounted FIRST เป็น R-SUITES
แต่ไม่รู้ว่าเหตุใดอยู่เฉยๆก็ทำการเปลี่่ยนบุ๊คกิ้งกลับเป็น A เช่นเคยให้เดินทางในไฟล์ทถัดไปซึ่งบินด้วย 772 ที่นั่งรุ่นเก่า
โอวววว...โนววววว งานเข้าขนาดนี้ เลยต้องทำการพูดคุยกับ SQ อย่างเคร่งเครียด
กว่าจะได้เรื่องก็ต้องต่อรองกับผู้จัดการแผนกจองตั๋วที่สิงคโปร์ และในที่สุดก็ได้กลับมานั่งไฟล์ทเดิม
เรื่องที่สองก็อย่างที่บ่นให้ฟังไปก่อนหน้านี้คือกล้องหาย
สรุปคือต้องซื้อใหม่ที่สนามบินนาริตะ เพราะไม่มีเวลาออกไปซื้อข้างนอก
เท่าที่เช็คราคาก็แพงกว่าข้างนอกเกือบ 25% เลยทีเดียว
แต่ในที่สุดด้วยความพยายามมุมานะก็ได้ลองนั่งดั่งที่ได้ตั้งหน้าตั้งตารอคอย
เดินทางสดๆร้อนๆไม่กี่วันที่ผ่านมา แต่นำมาให้ชมกันก่อน(ปกติต้องดองไว้อย่างต่ำครึ่งปี 5 5 5)
ความจริงปีนี้เดินทางบ่อยที่สุดในหลายปีที่ผ่านมา วางแผนว่าจะลดการเดินทางลงประมาณ 30%
จากเดิมปกติ 3 รอบ(โลก) ว่าจะลดลงเหลือ 2 รอบ(โลก) แต่ท้ายที่สุดคาดว่าปีนี้น่าจะเดินทางกว่า 5 รอบ(โลก)
ตอน นี้ที่เบื่อมากที่สุดอันดับแรกคืออาหารบนเครื่อง สองคืออาหารในเลาจ์ และสามคืออาหารเช้า(รวมถึงบุฟเฟ่ต์)โรงแรม...ขนาดเบื่อน้ำหนักก็ยังขึ้นเอาๆ 5 5 5

วันนี้นิเองก็ได้ฤกษ์งามยามดี   ในวันที่กรุงเทพฝนตกหนักมาก ถึง มากที่สุด
นำรีวิวของทริปสิงคโปร์มาลง  นิไปมาเมื่อ 4-7 กรกฎาคม 2552 ที่ผ่านมา
ซึ่งต้องขอบคุณรัฐบาลและธนาคารแห่งประเทศไทยที่ประกาศให้วันที่ 6 ก.ค.52
เป็นวันหยุดราชการพิเศษเพิ่มอีก 1 วัน  มิเช่นนั้น  ทริปนี้จะไม่เกิดขึ้น.....

ตั้งหัวข้อไว้ว่า "อยากเจอเมอไลอ้อน" ทำไมถึงเป็นเช่นนั้น...
เรื่องของเรื่อง  นับตั้งแต่ไหนแต่ไรมา  เวลาคนไปสิงคโปร์  ก็ชอบซื้อของฝากมาให้
ล้วนแล้วแต่มีรูปเมอไลอ้อน ทั้งนั้น  ตัวเองเลยอยากรู้ว่า...เมอไลอ้อน ตัวจริงอะ เป็นอย่างไร...

อิอิอิ  ที่กล่าวมาล้วนแล้วแต่เป็นข้ออ้างทั้งนั้น  เรื่องของเรื่อง  คือ อยากไปเที่ยวนั่นเอง....
และการอยากไปในครั้งนี้  ก็เลยเลือกที่จะบินกับสายการบินติดอันดับของโลกค่ะ

I must apologise that this is going to be a rather short report, as I have been busy flying around the region and do not have much time to write. ตั๋วถูกๆ ไม่เหลือเลยครับ เพราะกระชั้นชิด และเป็นช่วงหยุดเสาร์อาทิตย์ด้วย

สะสมไมล์ได้ เเต่ไปถึงมืด

ขากลับออกเร็วไป ถ้าไป via ไปฮ่องกงขากลับ คงต้องจ่ายค่าตั๋วกับ Fuel Surcharge อีกบาน
ราคาใกล้เคียงกันประมาณ 7500-7600

ราคาเหยียบหมื่น อยากนั่งเเต่เเพง เเถมเวลาไม่ดีอีก

ตั๋วโปรโมชั่นมีเเต่ Fixed flight ไปถึงเย็นๆ เเถมเจอ AB6 กับ 330

ขาไปนั่งได้เฉพาะ SQ971(เช้าสุด)/975/631
ก็ประมาณ 7900 บาท ทั้งสองเจ้า ก็เลยไป SQ ดีกว่า ไม่ได้นั่งมานานมากเเล้ว เเละนี่เป็นครั้งเเรกด้วยที่จะได้นั่ง Boeing 777 -- ปกติฟ้าจะลิขิตให้ผมเจอกับ Airbus ตลอด บ่อยที่สุดคือ A340-300 (สายการบินต่างชาติ) รองลงมาก็ A300 (การบินไทย)

โรงเเรมผมจัดการเอาคูปองโรงเเรมสองคืนที่ใช้ไมล์ ROP เเลกมา ติดต่อไปทาง Traders Hotel by Shangri-La บริการรวดเร็วทันใจถึงเเม้จะกระชั้นชิดมาก ห้องเต็มด้วยเพราะมีงาน Airshow เเถมโทรไปครั้งที่สองเจอพนักงานคนไทยอีก ช่วยเหลือเรื่องห้องให้จนได้มาเป็นวันเสาร์เเละอาทิตย์สองคืน (พวกมาซื้อเครื่องบินเริ่มกลับกันเเล้ว) เบ็ดเสร็จจ่ายค่าธรรมเนียมประมาณ 800 กว่าบาท ก่อนกลับก็ร่อนจดหมายชมเชยพนักงานคนไทยไป 1 ฉบับ

ส่วนคืนเเรก--วันศุกร์ก็หาเอาดาบหน้าจาก agoda.com

บัตรเข้างาน Airshow ก็เข้าไปซื้อในเว็บ เเล้วก็ปริ้นท์ออกมา

พอความตึงเครียดเริ่มคลายก็เลยหาอะไรเล่นให้คุ้มค่าตั๋ว
1.) จัดการทำ Internet Check-in จองที่นั่งริมหน้าต่างฝั่งขวาเอาไว้เลย เพราะช่วงนี้เครื่องบินจะขึ้นทางด้านรันเวย์ 01R เวลา take off จะได้เห็นวิวสนามบินชัดๆ
2.) ใครๆ ก็บอกว่า SQ971 มีเเต่หมี่ผัดเซ็งๆ กับออมเล็ทท์ เลยจัดการโทร.ไป request special meal เป็นเมนู BEEF ซะเลย

ทุกอย่างเกือบเรียบร้อย--ขาดก็เเต่โรงเเรมสำหรับคืนเเรก ผมออกเดินทางกันเช้าวันศุกร์ที่ 22 เพื่อไปงาน Singapore Airshow 2008 ในช่วง Public ของวันเสาร์ที่ 23 กุมภาพันธ์ อากาศที่สิงคโปร์ในขณะนั้น กำลังร้อนระอุได้ที่ทีเดียว .... เเต่เมืองไทยลมหนาวกำลังพัดหวิวๆ กำลังเย็นสบาย... ครั้นกลับมาลมหนาวก็อันตรธานหายไปเสียเเล้ว -- อากาศดีๆ ไปหาที่ร้อนๆ อยู่ชัดๆ]]> Sun, 23 Nov 2008 14:54:08 HS_TMD Sweet Deals บินคู่กับSQ ไปญี่ปุ่นคัฟ *-*+"_" http://www.hflight.net/forum/m-1227339077/ http://www.hflight.net/forum/m-1227339077/#num1

This report is about Shanghai, and Singapore Airlines... two things that are very close to my heart.

Shanghai, the Paris of the East, was a city where I started my career with my first employer almost a decade ago.  As a young SQ executive, wet behind the ears, I was eager to experience  life as a 'foreigner' in my 'mother land'. I fell in love with this city then, and still am to this very day.

I first came to Shanghai when the city was still at the cusp of an economic boom, when relocating to this city was considered a hardship assignment. Today, a posting to Shanghai is akin to a posting in New York (to Singaporeans at least).  It's where the action is – the financial hub of China, a city lined with beautifully designed skyscrapers next to old communist style family quarters.  Where modern entertainment complexes are a common sight, and where you are no longer persecuted as a capitalist dog if you leave your home decked in the latest designer clothes and accessories.

There's a certain charm about Shanghai that I cannot put my finger to.  But they say a picture say a thousand words, so perhaps these pictures will speak for me...

ตอนนี้ผมก็กลับมาถึงเมืองไทยแล้วละครับ ที่จริงก็กลับมาตั้งนานแล้วละ แต่สถานการณ์บ้านเมืองที่ไม่ค่อยปกติตอนนี้ทำให้ผมเกือบลืมรีวิวสำคัญที่กะจะนำมาฝากกันเลยละครับ นั่นก็คือรีวิวขากลับจากเมืองจีนของผมนั่นเอง ผมเชื่อว่ารีวิวนี้จะเป็นครั้งแรกของ hflight ที่มีการรีวิวอาคารใหม่ของท่าอากาศยานนานาชาติผู่ตง (ช่างไห่ผู่ตงกว๋อจี้จีฉ่าง) นั่นก็คือ Terminal 2 นั่นเองครับ เพิ่งเปิดให้บริการไปสดๆ ร้อนๆ เมื่อราวๆ เดือนมีนาที่ผ่านมานี่เอง แถมด้วยภาพภายในบริเวณ boarding area และร้านค้าปลอดภาษีภายใน T3 ชางงีด้วย แถมด้วยรถไฟแม่เหล็กสู่สนามบินผู่ตงด้วย ผมว่าผมหยุดพล่ามก่อนดีกว่า พล่ามไปพล่ามมาเดี๋ยวจะยาวอีก ไปชมกันเลยดีกว่าครับ หลังจากที่ผมไม่ได้กลับบ้านมาร่วมเกือบปี ในที่สุดก็จะได้กลับเมืองไทย (ที่แม้จะวุ่นวาย แต่ผมก็ยังรัก) ซะที

ได้รับเอกสารเดินทางมาเรียบร้อย

ติดอยู่ ตม.กว่า 30 นาที เช้านี้เหนื่อยๆ เลยไม่ค่อยได้ถ่ายรูปเท่าไหร่

พอดีติดธุระทั้งคืน มาสนามบินแบบเบลอๆ เลยขอแว๊บไปทานข้าวต้ม
กับอาบน้ำ* ที่ห้องรับรอง King Power ก่อนบินนิดนึง โอเคดีครับ

ชุดข้าวของเครื่องใช้ มาจาก Novotel ครับผม

ออกมากินข้าวเล็กน้อย พนักงานบริการดี เดินมาถามเลยว่าเอาข้าวต้มหมูไหม หมูนี่เป็นชิ้นๆ เลยนะครับ
แต่ว่ามัวแต่อาบน้ำ เวลาเลยเหลือน้อย ไม่ได้ถ่ายรูปในห้องมา มีเครื่องดื่มแอลกอฮอล์บริการด้วยครับ
รูปด้านล่างเป็นพยาน มัวแต่นั่งกิน ลืมเลย ว่าเครื่องออก 07:45 น. เฮอๆ

หลังจากนั้นก็รีบวิ่งมาที่เกท จริงๆ ก็ใกล้กันนิดเดียวเองนะครับ แต่กลัวตกเครื่องอ่ะ

วันที่สอง หลังจากทำธุระตอนกลางวันเรียบร้อยแล้ว ก็จะพามิตรรักแฟนเพลง
ไปต่อที่ Night Safari นะครับผม นั่ง MRT ไปลง Ang Mo Kio แล้วต่อ Taxi ไป
จริงๆ อยากประหยัดก็สาย 138 ก็ได้ครับ แต่ผมไปกับเพื่อนๆ ครับ

]]> Sat, 9 Aug 2008 17:53:57 Flugzeug BKK-SIN-BKK By "SQ" {A Great Way to Fly} http://www.hflight.net/forum/m-1216921670/ http://www.hflight.net/forum/m-1216921670/#num1 สวัสดีค่ะ ชาว HFlight.net ทุก ๆ คน เอ้า! ขอเสียงหน่อย (จะขอทำไม ไม่ได้มา concert) หลังจากที่ปล่อยรีวิวที่พักตามรอยป๋า saranboy ไปนานแล้ว ก็ได้ฤกษ์คายรีวิวการเดินทางไปสิงคปุระสักที ดองไว้นานมากแล้ว จริงๆ ตั้งใจจะรอให้ครบ 1 ปีแล้วค่อยทำ แต่เนื่องจาก USB มันประท้วงกลายๆ ด้วยการ error บ่อยๆ หวิดจะทำให้รูปหายหลายรอบ จึงต้องอาราธนาออกมาลงเว็บเสียที ก่อนที่รูปจะหาย รีวิวนี้เป็นการเดินทางไปสิงค์โปร์กับสายการบินในดวงใจ นั่นก็คือ Singapore Airlines รายละเอียดดังนี้เลยค่ะ

และเนื่องจากตื่นสาย มา check in สาย รูปขาไปจึงมีน้อยนิด (จริงๆ แล้วมันก็น้อยทั้งไปและกลับน่ะแร่ะ)

บวกกับกล้องมันไม่ค่อยอยากไปเที่ยว มันคงอยากนอนอยู่บ้านมากกว่า กว่าจะถ่ายให้ชัดได้แต่ละรูป ต้องถ่ายซ้ำแล้วซ้ำอีก เลยได้ภาพมาน้อยมากๆ แต่เส้นทางนี้ได้มีเพื่อนๆ สมาชิกในเว็บโปรยปรายไว้มากพอควรแล้ว หมูชิก็ไม่ลงซ้ำมากล่ะกัน เพราะแต่ละรูปก็คล้ายๆ กันค่ะ

จริงๆ มีรูปมุมบังคับภายในสนามบินด้วยนะคะ (รูปพระนารายณ์กวนเกษียรสมุทร) แต่อยู่ในกล้องเพื่อน แล้วหมูชิก็ขี้เกียจรอเพื่อนแล้ว เลยไม่เอาลงล่ะกัน คงเห็นกันจนชินแล้ว

ประเดิมภาพแรกด้วยบรรยากาศข้างในกันเลยค่ะ (ก็บอกแล้วว่ามาสาย สายจนเกือบจะตกเครื่อง)

นี่เป็นครั้งแรกของผมที่มีโอกาสได้ใช้บริการสายการบิน Singapore Airlines ครับ หลังจากที่ตอนเด็กๆ เคยเดินทางระหว่าง KUL - SIN ประมาณ 2-3 ครั้ง ก็แอบหวังว่าจะได้นั่ง SQ แต่เจอทีไร ก็เจอแต่ MH จนเซ็ง(ไปกับทัวร์ เลือกไม่ได้

) ผ่านไปไวเหมือนโกหกครับ นับจากวันนั้น จนวันนี้ เวลาผ่านไปแล้ว 17 ปี  โอ้โห...ทำไมมันไวจังเนี่ย

I had posted a review of my SQ flight to Hanoi in December last year.  This is part 2 of that report.  I spent 1 week traveling around Hanoi on my year end vacation.  It was now time for me to return to Singapore for Christmas, and start the new year.

I checked out of my hotel at 11am and waited for the hotel to arrange for a taxi to bring me to Hanoi Noi Bai International Airport for my 1.30pm flight.  Meandering through the streets of Hanoi gave me a headache, as my driver kept his hands on the horn throughout the journey to the airport!  The horning of cars and motorbikes was non-stop and after 1 week in Hanoi, it was seriously beginning to get on my nerves.

45 min later, and seconds before I lost my sanity caused by the incessant horning of vehicles, I arrived at Noi Bai Airport.  The airport was shrouded with fog this afternoon, as temperature dipped to a nice cool 17 degrees.

วันนี้เอารีวิว ซึ่งผมได้เดินทางไปญี่ปุ่นในคืนวันคริต์สมาสที่ผ่านมามาฝากครับ
ครั้งนี้เป็นครั้งแรก ที่ผมเดินทางกับ SQ ซึ่งตัวผมเองก็มีรุ้สึกประทับใจอะไรหลายๆ
อย่างของสายการบินนี้ เริ่มต้นจาก ราคาโปรโมชั่นอันแสนยั่วใจครับ

โปรโมชั่นที่ผมได้ คือโปรโมชั่นสำหรับเดินทางพร้อมกัน 2 คน จอง และออกตั๋ว
ก่อนวันที่ 8 ธ.ค. 2550 ในราคา 15,875 บาท (รวมทุกอย่างแล้ว) ต่อคนครับ
ซึ่งก็สามารถใช้เดินทางในช่วงวันคริต์สมาสและปีใหม่ได้ด้วย ถูกมั๊ยล่ะ อิอิ

ผมโทรเช็คกับทาง agency ตอนนั้นก็ได้ราคาโปรโมชั่นนี้เช่นกัน แต่ถ้าจ่ายด้วย

Here's my trip report about Hanoi... and I do apologize that it is not in Thai.  I cannot speak or write in Thai, and am therefore sharing this with you in English...

This report will be on my thoughts and observations on SQ's regional business class product.

It has been a hectic year for me at work, which unfortunately didn't quite translate to as many business trips as I would have liked.  I missed the days when I was embarking on trips every month of the year.  Nonetheless, 2007 was coming to a close and work didn't seem to let up as it usually would during the holiday season.  I was yearning for a short break from work, just to get out of the office, go to some not so far away destination to eat, sleep and relax...

After much searching for a holiday destination online, I settled on Hanoi, a city that I had already visited  twice this year, but never really got a chance to experience due to the fact that I was only there for less than 3 days during those previous work visits.

I chanced upon SQ188, the new twice-weekly service complementing SQ's existing daily morning flights to Hanoi, while searching for redemption flights online.  Compared to the popular daily SQ176, which was often fully booked as its schedule offered business travelers an early start in Hanoi giving them a full day's worth of meetings thereafter; redeeming my miles on SQ188 was a breeze.   With my flights confirmed on SQ188 and SQ175 to and from Hanoi, miles deducted from the system, and the various taxes charged to my credit card, I went on to select my seats for both sectors.

It was at this point that I noticed that SQ188 was literally empty!  I was keeping my fingers crossed that I would be the only passenger onboard, so that I could experience truly personalized service by the famed Singapore Girls!  I also took the opportunity to try out SQ's "Book the Cook" service and settled on the Slipper Lobster Thermidore for my main.  I had heard so much about it in other forums and was looking forward to trying it!

Unfortunately, I later realized that it was to be a culinary experience not quite worth writing home about...more about that later.

CHECK IN:

I hopped into a cab and arrived at Changi Airport Terminal 2 in just 20min. Traffic was light on the expressway just after noon, and for once, I had some quiet time in the cab without the usual chatter by bored cab drivers.

The airport was decked out in Christmas decorations in the weeks leading to Christmas. The decorations were subtle and tasteful, and in my opinion a stark contrast to the glaring and loud Christmas decorations seen along the overcrowded stretch of Orchard Road at this time of the year. Changi has always been my favorite airport. Having seen and been through so many airports around the world, I have to say that the only other airport that comes close to Changi in terms of ease of getting around, efficiency of immigration/security and retail experience is Seoul Incheon. Size isn't always important, and some airports in the region and in the west have become so huge that catching a connection has become a downright pain and inconvenience to passengers. I hope with 3 terminals fully operational in January 2008, Changi doesn't become utterly disorganized and confusing, like the older hubs in Frankfurt and London.

Only 4 business class counters were opened for check in during Changi's so called off peak hour. The queues at the counters were growing and despite being only the 3rd person in line, I had to wait almost 10 min before I was served. It took less than 2 min before my bags were tagged and sent down the carousel. Other than having a well-worn blue carpet to welcome you at the counter, the whole experience did not differ much from what I was used to at the economy class counters. No enthusiastic check in staff or extra smiles to speak of.

The Silver Kris Lounge :

I was in the Silver Kris lounge (SKL) less than 5 min after check in and immigration, yes that is how efficient Changi is. A premium services officer welcomed me as I entered the reception area of the lounge and directed me to the left towards SQ's windowless Business Class lounge. What's so special about SQ's home based lounge? Nothing at all! In fact, I was struck by how old and outdated the whole area looked. While I agree that dimness of the lounge exuded a warm and cozy ambience, it badly needed new furniture and a major overhaul! Think CX and Virgin Atlantic's home-base lounges and you'll understand what a disgrace the SKL has become.

As it was lunch time, a limited selection of hot and cold food was served. Not having had breakfast, and completely famished, I helped myself to the buffet spread. Nothing exciting here, no satay (only in first class section), no ice cream either!

I had completely forgotten that I would be having lunch onboard my flight, and felt completely stuffed and a little drowsy when it was time to board my flight! I decided to walk off my drowsiness by taking a slow stroll to my gate at F58 and was pleasantly greeted with this view!

THE BUSINESS CLASS EXPERIENCE:

Boarding was called just as I entered the gatehold room. It was packed with Singaporean holiday makers and looked like economy was going to be at least 80% full. No crew was at door 1L to welcome passengers onboard even after boarding had commenced. As I entered the aircraft, Leading Stewardess (LSS) Lilian, who at that point was busy chatting with other crew members rushed forward to greet me and showed me to my seat at 15A. In the meantime, Inflight Service Supervisor (IFS) Wee suddenly appeared from economy class, dashed to the mic and hastily announced "cabin crew, passengers boarding now, to your stations please"

It's been quite a while since my last business class (called Raffles Class previously) flight with SQ. I observed that the service had become less personalized since then. While the crew used to personally hand you the menu and noise cancellation headphones once you settled down in your seat, these items are now placed in the seat pocket in front of you before you board. For a relatively empty cabin, I would have expected the crew to take the opportunity to personalize the service even more.

Hot towels followed by a selection of reading material were offered moments later. Welcome drink orders were taken shortly after.

9VSRN is one of the 'newer' regional B772s in SQ's fleet. Having been delivered in the early 2000s. it had the regional Ultimo seats that came with Givenchy designed seat covers and also AVOD inflight entertainment system in all cabins.

TAKE OFF:

Push back was on time and the standard safety video was screened. With only 1 central screen in the front of the cabin, I found it difficult to view the video clearly from where I was seated - due to the brightness of the cabin. It was also a hassle to take out my personal TV screen from its receptacle for a video that I have seen a hundred times as I would have to store it again prior to take off.

IFS Wee then came around to introduce himself to the 2 passengers in the cabin after the safety video and asked that we let him know if there's anything we needed during the flight. This was followed by LSS Lilian to take our after take-off drink order and to confirm that I had ordered their "Book the Cook" option. I opted for the mix of the month - Tropical Sparkle

The seat belt signs were pinged off once the aircraft leveled off and the 2 leading crew swung into their usual action. My Tropical Sparkle was served. According to the menu, it was a refreshing-yet-fruity blend of lime cordial and 7-up, with orange & tomato juice. I fully agree with the part about refreshing. It was delicious. There were a whole lot more non-alcoholic mixes according to the menu, and I was really tempted to try all of them. But having just had a full lunch in the lounge, I had to reserve some space for the 2nd lunch that I was about to have onboard.. Perhaps on my return flight I would.

LUNCH IS SERVED:

LSS Lilian came by and laid out the tablecloth on my table before she proceeded to place my appetizer before me. LS Tan followed closely behind with the bread basket.

Garlic bread and roll (A range of olive oil was offered for those who preferred a healthier alternative to butter).

Appetizer - smoked salmon with mashed potatoes and walnut salad.

As per SQ standards, all glasses, plates were placed such that the Raffles Class logos were facing me. It's this attention to little details that makes SQ stand out from its competition. While the Raffles Class name has since been removed from all SQ marketing material and hardware such as boarding passes, menu covers and signages, the Travelers Palm logo was still evident on all the business class serviceware onboard the aircraft. I'm assuming that this product update is currently in its transition phase, and SQ will soon replace these old serviceware with the new 'logoless' ones that are currently used on the A380 and 773ER flights?

My slipper lobster thermidore was served next. Well, I was surprised at how small the slipper lobster looked. It had just about 4 tiny morsels of lobster meat, while bits of mushroom filled the rest of the shell.

The 6oz beef steak. I was told the meat was juicy, tender and tasted really good.

Dessert, a cheese plate, and a selection of seasonal fruits were offered after the main.

Dessert - Green tea jelly with red beans. Do not let the hideous looking jelly fool you; it actually tasted really great

The banana was over-ripe, and half of it was inedible.

I ended my meal with a cup of tea and some pralines.

While LSS Lilian and LS Tan did no wrong throughout the flight, I had expected more from them for the basic reasons that this was Singapore Airlines, not just any carrier; and secondly, there were only two passengers onboard with a crew/passenger ratio of 1:1! The inflight service on this flight was friendly, efficient but definitely not outstanding. But that's what I've come to expect from any leading Asian carrier.

I sensed that the crew were simply going through their motions, they offered what was available, ensured that your glass was always filled, but never going beyond expectations. I would have expected just a little bit more from an LSS and more so because this was business class on Singapore Airlines.

REST OF THE FLIGHT:

Feeling completely stuffed after 2 consecutive lunches, I reclined my seat and caught the movie "Hair Spray" on my personal TV.

The crew consistently came round the cabin to check that I had my glass filled.

A visit to the lavatory - L'Occitane toiletries

Linen towels to dry your hands with.  It seems a great waste to dispose of these linen towels into the waste bin after use.  I wonder if SQ actually cleans them and recycles them on other flights?

All too soon, the captain came on the air to inform us about the weather condition in Hanoi, time check, and how far we were from Hanoi.  This signaled the start of descent, the end of my flight, and the start of my vacation.

We touched down in misty Hanoi 20 minutes ahead of schedule and I was the first person out of the aircraft, the first person to clear immigration.  Unfortunately, that was where the efficiency ended.  Despite being the first to arrive at the baggage carousel, it was another 10 minutes before the first bag appeared.  None of the first 20 bags had priority tags on them, meaning that they had probably unloaded the Y class baggage containers before the priority containers.  This would have been a serious 'malpractice' under SQ's ground services guidelines; but I suppose rules don't always apply in Vietnam.

Half an hour after arrival, I was in a taxi on my way to the hotel, cruising on streets where traffic rules were almost non-existent; where motorbikes, pedestrians and cars seemed to have the right of way all the time; and where sounding one's horn was a means to tell everyone on the road to "get the f*@&#*g hell out of my way!!!"...

Singapore Airline’s newest addition, the B777-300ER, has been the talk of town since it was introduced into its fleet late last year.  Many have raved at the sheer spaciousness of its First and Business class cabins, and a number of trip reports have been written about these premium cabins.

With an entitlement to travel only on cattle class, and the fact that there has been no trip report on SQ’s new economy class product on the B77W, made me eager to find out how the new product on their 77W fleet would be like.  This report is in fact the final leg of a recent business trip that brought me from Singapore-Frankfurt-Tripoli-Benghazi-Tripoli-Frankfurt-Singapore.  I was elated to find out that the final leg of this trip would be on the new 77W!   However, my travel agent had difficulty confirming me on SQ for the FRA-SIN sectors, which could mean that I would have to miss the opportunity to experience SQ’s new cabin product to settle for LH that I had been confirmed on instead.

Without any intention to put LH down, but really, there’s simply no comparison between SQ and LH’s Y class inflight product.  The thought of flying LH for 12 hours without PTV or subservient Singapore Girls to ensure that everyone is well hydrated and fed and (short of giving me a foot massage) that we have a comfortable flight was daunting…

Alas, I was still unable to confirm my flights on SQ the day I was supposed to have my tickets issued.  I risked losing my confirmed reservations on LH if I did not have the tickets issued by the end of the day.  The clock was ticking, and I had to decide quickly if I was to go with SQ (with the final sector waitlisted) or to issue my tickets on LH… I decided to play the waiting game, and asked my travel agent to hold on first while I desperately made some calls to my friends at SQ to seek their help to DAPO (“do all possible” in SQ  lingo).

I received a call from my agent an hour later to inform me that my booking  on SQ325 out of Frankfurt had miraculously been confirmed!!  I knew at that point that I would have to make a little trip to the Caviar House at Frankfurt Airport to get my ‘guardian angels’ some good ol’ caviar…

Fast-forward a week later, where I was back in Frankfurt after spending 4 days in Libya.  It has been years since I last set foot on German soil and nothing much has changed.  Frankfurt airport was anything people friendly.  With major renovations on-going, parts of the airport were boarded up, and directional signs were deemed useless as many a times, they led passengers to boarded walls which were original exits leading to various satellites.  It was confusing and it took significant effort for anyone to locate their connecting gates.  I travel often enough to know, intuitively, where to go at any airport, but FRA, at this point in time just seemed to defy logic.  There were transfer counters everywhere, but finding one that was opened was in itself extremely challenging.  I must confess that I lost my way twice while at FRA.  The first time was after my flight from SIN, when I spent almost an hour searching for a transfer counter to issue my boarding pass for my onward flight to Tripoli.  The second time was after I arrived from Tripoli, and several backtracks later, I was told by an unsmiling LH ground staff that I in order to get my boarding pass on SQ325, I could either go to the gate 2 hours before the flight, or go to the land-side check in counters which would open 4 hours before the flight. Getting through immigration was yet another chore.  As I had just arrived from Tripoli, I was subjected to further interrogation by a “not-so-friendly” immigration officer.  Actually, he was downright rude and condescending!

Airport staff were on most occasions, nonchalant and rude – this was especially so at security check points where passengers were shouted at, and treated with ‘disdain’.  Yes the word is ‘disdain’.  One was made to feel that they either hated their job so much, or they really hated the passengers that they had to deal with.

In all, transiting through FRA was definitely not a pleasant experience, and I would avoid passing through this airport in future if I can help it.

To cut a long story short, I decided to get into Frankfurt for a look see and at the same time collect my boarding pass from the SQ check in counter.

Frankfurt Airport: Land of Lufthansa!

Having had enough to see, and having been told by friends that clearing security at FRA would be a nightmare, I proceeded back into the airport. They were right! Appearing before me were snaking queues of passengers waiting to clear security checks just before immigration. There were at least 200 passengers waiting to be processed! I was secretly glad that I heeded my friends’ advice. The security checks were definitely thorough. Belts, watches had to be removed, pockets emptied, laptops removed from the bags and shoes scanned. I understand the need for security checks in this day and age, but the abiding crowd and shouting security officers somehow reminded me of a scene from Schindler’s List!

It took me some 30 min before I was back in the main air-side shopping area. I managed to get the caviar that I promised my friends, as well as 2 BOSS belts – just to give myself a little treat for having gone through a difficult week in Libya

Satellite B – Where SQ325 was to depart from.

After some shopping, I decided to check out the Lufthansa Senator Lounge where I waited out the remaining hours before my flight. It was nowhere as elaborate as the Silver Kris Lounges or *A lounges that I have seen around the world. However, the German meats and dessert on offer were simply scrumptious!

I managed to get some work done while relaxing in the lounge before proceeding to gate B46. Boarding by rows had already commenced by the time I got there. The excitement grew as I proceeded down the aerobridge and made my way into SQ’s first 77W – 9VSWA, turned left past the gigantic Business Seats before reaching my seat - 46A. Great! A window seat with the middle seat blocked off (this was my lucky night as there were less than 10 empty seats in Y class)

The personal reading light located just under the PTV screen comes with 3 levels of brightness. Why didn’t anyone think of this earlier?

I’m not too sure what the seat pitch was, but it definitely felt wider than the 33 inch that I’m used to on their 772ER aircrafts. My guess is it’s 34 inch cos I was actually able to cross my legs quite comfortably when seated! I know some people have commented how awful the new carpets on 77W look, but I do think they look great…quite similar to those on AF.

Plush pillows with new and softer covers were placed on every seat. They definitely look much better than the pink ones on the rest of the SQ fleet. The fleece blanket was also nice and warm - and most important of all, one does not get hit by the static that seems to happen all the time with the wool ones on the other aircrafts.

Soft pillows

It began pouring heavily as soon as the powerful GE90 engines spooled up. I’m not sure if this is a characteristic of the GE engines, but the noise was almost deafening as the they spooled up; so much so that the inflight announcements became inaudible, and the cabin vibrated throughout. The noise and vibration lasted a good 2 minutes before they quieted down.

SQ325 thundered down the runway for a good 1 min or more before lifting up into the wet and dark skies. Heavy turbulence swayed the aircraft around for a substantial amount of time before the seat belt signs were finally switched off. English and German announcements were made for all passengers to remain seated while the cabin crew went about their duties. Speaking of German announcements, there were 2 cabin crew who spoke German on this evening’s flight, a leading steward and a flight stewardess. The stewardess made most of the German announcements on this flight, while the steward occasionally made the announcements asking passengers to get back to their seat whenever there was turbulence. Truth be told, the steward’s German announcement sounded rather authentic to me (I don’t speak German, but I’ve heard the announcements on Lufthansa earlier that day so I know how German should sound like). On the other hand, the stewardess’ German announcements were jarring. How should I put this nicely… For the Singaporean a.netters, perhaps you’ll understand what I am saying. Try imagining an Ah Lian speaking German. It sounded like a very strong Singaporean accent (not Singlish) but in German. Yes, the SQ Ah Lians have struck again… this time in German!!

The crew swung into action, distributing menus and amenity kits. Now, it seems that apart from the menus, everything on the 77W has been ‘upgraded’, from pillows and blankets right down to the amenity kits! Here’s the proof –

New sockettes and toothbrush sets! An interesting point to note is that toothbrush sets are no longer provided in the lavatories on flights where amenity kits are provided – only shaving kits are available.

After takeoff beverages and peanuts were handed out by the crew on a tray. White wine, orange juice and beer were on offer. I resisted asking for anything that was not on the tray as I was too occupied with checking out the surroundings.

The foldable table provided much more space and comfort. EK has had this for ages, and I’m surprised it took so long to discover the benefits of this design. The rectangular indent on the right side of the tray can be slid open to reveal a mirror!

All one needed to do was to adjust the angle of the tray table to see himself in the mirror.

Dinner was served about an hour into the flight. New cutlery and servicewares exclusively on 77W operated flights! They look really classy compared to the standard ones!

As with all ultra-long haul flights on SQ, three mains were available tonight.

Appetiser: Smoked Salmon with leek salad – a thick slab of salmon at that!

Kang Gai – Siamese style chicken curry served with selected vegetables and steamed rice ( I don’t recall why I chose this, but it tasted great, albeit not as authentic as those you find in BKK or SIN)

Other mains on offer were:
# Beef fillet with rosemary sauce, assorted vegetables and sautéed potato with onion.
# Chinese style braised fish fillet in preserved black bean sauce, seasonable vegetables and steamed rice.

Cheese & crackers and roll and butter

Dessert: Ice Cream

For those who are interested, here’re some close-ups of the new wavy-edged serviceware.

Dinner service was slow, and it was almost 1am (Frankfurt time) by the time the dinner service and several coffee/tea refills ended and cleared. The mandatory trip to the lavatory before turning in for the night was made… No sanitary pad absorbency tests were made, so the subsequent pictures are alright for general viewing.

The new lavatories were decently furnished and equipped, sans the toothbrush sets which are already in your personal amenity kits.

Cabin lights were dimmed as I popped a sleeping pill and checked out some hotel deals from Business Traveller. The personal reading lights were unintrusive and provided sufficient lighting in the pitch dark cabin.

I knocked out completely as the sleeping pill kicked in, missing the mid-flight snacks that were handed out.
SNACK MENU:
Sandwiches – savory and vegetarian sandwich
Snacks – Roasted peanuts, Bread Stick Snack, Wafer Biscuit, Potato Chips, Assorted Sweet Biscuits and Fruit.

1.5 hrs into SIN, the cabin lights were illuminated and the “before touch down” meal service commenced. This was essentially breakfast, but it was 3pm in SIN so I opted for the noodles instead of scrambled eggs.

Wholesome beginnings: Braised egg noodles with minced beef in oriental sauce and vegetables – the meal came with a tiny tub of sweet chilli sauce (It wasn’t bad at all and the portions were substantial. The size of the main casserole was 1/3 larger than the one served during dinner service)

Butter/Fruit Preserve and yoghurt

Breakfast, or rather “Before Touch Down” was cleared just as the aircraft started its decent.

SQ325 touched down in rainy Singapore right on schedule after an 11 hr 30min journey from an equally rainy Frankfurt.

The service on this flight was almost impeccable, if not for the Singaporean sounding German announcements made by a particular flight stewardess.  What impressed me most was the enhanced spaciousness and comfort level that the Y class seats offered, as well as the new soothing color tones in the cabin.   They are miles ahead of what SQ offers on their other 777 fleet and 744s.  I believe the new A380 aircrafts will offer the same Y seats, with perhaps even more personal space.  I’m glad I made it on this flight, and did not have to settle for LH’s 744 if my bookings on SQ had not materialized, and had the opportunity to experience a truly GREAT WAY TO FLY.  Now, if only I can get myself on the A345… L

วันนี้เลือกบินกับสิงคโปร์แอร์ไลน์อีกครั้งค่ะ SQ191 เส้นทางปีนังไปสู่สิงคโปร์ค่ะ เพื่อไปต่อเส้นทางบินตรงเข้าเกาะสมุยกับ "เอชียบูติคแอร์ไลน์" ค่ะ

เมื่อคืนเลือกพักที่โรงแรม Bayview Georgetown Penang ค่ะ พนักงานน่ารักมากๆค่ะ ห้องพักก็โอเคนะคะ ราคาถูกมากเหมือนกัน (จองผ่านหนวดปลาหมึก แต่เป็นหนวดปลากหมึกของพีจี ตอนที่จองยังไม่ทราบว่าที่ HFlight มีบริการนี้ด้วย เอาไว้มีโอกาสจะมาช่วยอุดหนุนนะคะ) แต่ห้องน้ำควรจะปรับปรุงด่วนค่ะ โดยเฉพาะม่านพลาสติก "รา" ขึ้นดำสกปรกเชียวค่ะ

อ้อ เพื่อนๆท่านไหนที่เอาแล็ปท็อปไปด้วย ในห้องมีบรอร์ดแบนด์บริการ แต่มีค่าใช้จ่ายนะคะ จำได้ว่าวันละ 20 ริงกิต Unlimited สปีดไวมากค่ะ ติดต่อที่รีเซพชั่นได้โดยตรงนะคะ

มาถึงสนามบินคนเยอะพอสมควรเลยค่ะเช้านี้ ก่อนอื่นก็ต้องสแกนกระเป๋า (เฉพาะ Checked Luggage) ก่อนเข้าไปที่เคาน์เตอร์เช็คอินนะคะ แหมเปิดไปน้อยจังค่ะ สงสัยจะประหยัดกัน บรรยากาศการเช็คอินก็เลยทึมๆสักเล็กน้อย มองหาเคาน์เตอร์ของเอสคิวอยู่นาน มาหลบอยู่มุมขวาสุดเลยค่ะ วันนี้บิน JClass (ถ้าบินออกจากกัวลาลัมเปอร์ไปสิงคโปร์จะเป็น PClass ค่ะ) เช็คอินรวดเร็วดีค่ะ พนักงานสุภาพดี ดีนะคะที่มาเช็คอินแต่เนิ่นๆ เพราะหลังจากได้บัตรขึ้นเครื่องแล้ว หันหลังกลับมาผู้โดยสารต่อแถวรอกันยาวเหยียดเลยค่ะ ทั้งผู้โดยสาร Y และ J

ที่นี่มีสายการบินที่ไม่เคยได้ยินชื่อหลายสายเลยค่ะ เดาเอาว่าส่วนใหญ่จะมาจากอินโดนีเซียนะคะ เดินผ่านมาตรงที่ประตูทางออก แหมไม่ค่อยเป็นระเบียบเท่าไหร่นะคะ หมายถึงผู้โดยสารน่ะค่ะ จะเข้าไปตรวจหนังสือเดินทางก็ไม่เข้ายืนออกันอยู่ตรงนั้นแหละ ทั้งๆก็เห็นกันว่าที่หน้าประตูทางเข้านั้นทางเดินแคบมากๆ ดีนะคะที่มีพนักงานมาจัดระเบียบให้เลยโล่งและเป็นระเบียบขึ้น

วันนี้เดินทางกับสิงคโปร์แอร์ไลน์และซิลค์แอร์นะค่ะ บินเส้นทาง สุวรรณภูมิ - สิงคโปร์ - ลังกาวี โดยถึงสิงคโปร์ค่ำๆของวันที่ 6 เมษายนและออกเดินทางไปลังกาวีเช้าวันที่ 7 เมษายนค่ะ

เริ่มต้นกับสิงคโปร์แอร์ไลน์ SQ979 เฟิร์สต์คลาส (P Class) สุวรรณภูมิ - สิงคโปร์ 1650 - 2015 วันนี้ใช้เครื่อง 777-300 ค่ะ rainy จองและจ่ายผ่านเว็ปไซต์ของ SQ โดยตรงค่ะ โดยใช้บัตรเดบิต (วีซ่าอิเล็คตรอน) ของธนาคารยูโอบี (ประเทศไทย) ถือว่าเป็นความสะดวกที่ SQ มอบให้กับผู้โดยสารค่ะ แถม rainy ยังได้สะสมแต้มกับยูโอบีอีกต่อหนึ่ง ดีจังค่ะ (เมื่อก่อนเคยใช้บัตรนี้จองผ่านเว็ป PG ได้เหมือนกัน แต่เดี๋ยวนี้ไม่ได้แล้วค่ะ เพราะเปลี่ยน gateway จากธนาคารเอเชียมาใช้ของธนาคารกสิกรซะแล้ว) แนะนำว่าให้ใช้บัตรเดบิตกับเว็ปไซต์ - ร้านค้าที่น่าเชื่อถือเท่านั้นนะคะ สำหรับ rainy แล้วเข้าทางเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงมีแล้วถึงจ่ายตามแนวทางที่ยึดถืออยู่ค่ะ ส่วนไฟลต์ของ MI ต้องพึ่งบัตรเครดิตมาสเตอร์การ์ดของคู่ชีวิตค่ะ กลับจากเที่ยวต้องมาตามใช้หนี้อีกค่ะ (อันนี้สถานการณ์บังคับจริงๆ ถ้าไม่จำเป็นจริงๆจะไม่ใช่บัตรเครดิตกันค่ะ) นี่มารู้ทีหลังว่าบัตร Be1st + Verified by Visa ของธนาคารกรุงเทพฯจองตั๋วเครื่องบินผ่านเน็ตได้ ไม่อย่างนั้นก็จะไม่ต้องใช้บัตรเครดิตเลยค่ะ

หลังจากที่ผมเสร็จสิ้นทริป 5 วันหรรษาในรัฐคุชราต (Gujarat) และรัฐราชสถานตอนใต้ (Southern Rajasthan) แล้ว เป็นทริปที่ประทับใจแม้ว่าจะเป็นช่วงเวลาสั้นๆ แค่ 5 วันก็ตาม...เพราะได้เที่ยวชมโบราณสถานสวยๆมากมายหลายแห่ง ที่แสดงถึงภูมิปัญญาของช่างอินเดียโบราณ เมื่ออดีตนับร้อยนับพันปีก่อนได้เป็นอย่างดี

Here a review of my hotel, filled with pictures taken during my bored moments in the hotel room...

The weather eased up after day 2, and the sun appeared once again from behind the clouds, bringing with it a nice respite from the wet weather.  Unfortunately, the wet weather during the height of summer meant that the following days were excruciatingly hot and humid... many times more than what I am used to in Singapore!

I spent 5 long warm and humid days in Taipei, and was glad that I was finally able to return to Singapore, where the weather was seldom this extreme.

It was close to 11am when my colleague and I gathered at the hotel lobby to complete our check-out formalities.  The hotel staff were friendly and efficient, and check out was done in less than 3 minutes.  Noticing that our ride had not arrived, they invited us to wait in the lobby lounge and encouraged us to take advantage of the free beverages on offer.

Our airport transfer arrived promptly at the stipulated time of 11.15am, and we were soon on our way to CKS International Airport located in Taoyuan precinct for our 2pm flight on SQ871. My colleague and I decided to take the scenic route to the airport today, as we had wanted to catch a glimpse of the coastline as well as a power plant that one of our clients had recently built.

Unbeknownst to us, traffic was considerably heavy on the route that we had chosen, and we spent a good 1 hour stuck in traffic jam instead

1 hr 45min later, CKS International finally loomed in the horizon. We had to pass by the old terminal 1 where various carriers departed from before arriving at the new CKS terminal 2 where SQ, CI, UA and BR flights now depart from.

CKS terminal 2 was abuzz with activities as bus loads of Taiwanese tourist were departing for their holidays.

With less than an hour left before our flight, we dashed to the SQ counters. We were the last few passengers at the counter as most of the passengers had already checked in for the flight. With only 10 min before the flight was closed, the SQ check in agents swiftly checked us in and advised us to clear immigration as soon as possible.

SQ handles its own flights in Taipei. Check in staff were noticeably all in SQ ground uniform. Service there was significantly friendlier with a generous dose of smiles all around. I grabbed some barley-flavored sweets that were on offer at every counter, and was soon on my way...

Terminal 2 was visibly spanking new. It was apparent that BR was the main carrier operating out of this terminal as the departure hall was predominantly in BR's green colors.

We cleared the crowded immigration hall without any fuss, and in a record time of just 10 min! Having passed through many airports around the region so often, I had developed a knack for finding the fastest moving immigration queues. Without sounding racist, certain nationalities are notorious for holding up immigration queues due to relatively more thorough checks on their travel documents by immigration officers. So it is best to avoid queues were these nationalities happen to be in.

We quickly headed to our gate, where 9VSYE (777-300) in Star Alliance colors awaited, and boarded the flight to Singapore.

We were welcomed onboard the flight by the familiar strains of "Welcome aboard sir, can I see your boarding pass please". Greeting us on today's flight were a Chief Stewardess and a Taiwanese flight stewardess in her striking blue sarong kebaya.

I quickly settled down in my seat and waited for push back while observing the crew helping the rest of the passengers with their cabin bags.

We pushed back on time, and within minutes, the tow truck detached itself from the aircraft. Ground engineers bade us farewell amidst the looming storm clouds that were threatening Taipei with another storm!

We soared into the sky, and hit pockets of turbulence before finally settling down on our desired flight level. The fasten seat belt signs were switched off, and Singapore Airlines' internationally renowned inflight service commenced with bar service followed by lunch.

I opted for the oriental selection comprising traditional stewed pork in mixed vegetables; seafood soba, frozen hard Haagen Dazs ice cream (chocolate or vanilla flavors), and a Chinese snack (pineapple biscuit). Let us now enjoy the lunch.

Lunch was washed down with a refreshing cup of Chinese tea.

I settled down to enjoy the remaining 3 hours of my flight, and managed to catch Stephen Chao's 'Kungfu Hustler' which I had missed when it was screening in Singapore. The movie was hilarious, and it took much effort to stifle my laughter.

As this aircraft was not equipped with AVOD, I soon got bored after the movie and decided once again to play around with my trusty Canon digital camera, taking shots of various objects in the cabin.

The sun was beginning to set as we approached the Malaysian peninsular. The final announcements by the captain informing passengers of the weather conditions and ground arrangements in Singapore signaled that we would be landing in Singapore very shortly.

Gate information was flashed across the screen, updating passengers where their next Singapore Airlines flight would be departing from later in the evening.

We touched down in Singapore soon after, and I was out in the arrival hall waiting for my ride back home in less than 15 minutes!

I love Singapore Airlines for their consistent service and efficient hub at Changi. I hope you enjoyed my report as well, and I look forward to sharing more reviews with you.

I was on a working assignment with a Korean client that lasted 3 weeks. Being in Seoul for the first time, I took the time to savor the Korean culture, language, food and experienced the warm hospitality of the Korean people.

All too soon, my stay in Korea came to an end, and it was then that I reluctantly packed my bags, and checked out of my service apartment in Seodaemun. I hopped into an awaiting taxi and made my way to Seoul-yok (Seoul Station) to catch the mid-day airport limousine bus to Incheon airport.

The limousine bus arrived right on schedule, and took us across the river to Kangnam before making its final stretch to Incheon Airport. The journey took no less than 1hr 40min as the bus meandered through the streets of Seoul and endured traffic jams typical of everyday Seoul.

Incheon airport was itself a masterpiece. Soaring space age architecture welcomed passengers making their way to various international and domestic destinations. I dropped off in front of entrance number 12, and handed over my luggage to the friendly check in staff. With bags checked in, I promptly made my way to the mobile rental counter to return my trusty LG CDMA mobile phone that had accompanied me throughout my stay in Korea.

I caught up with my business associate who had taken great care of me during my stay in Seoul, and treated him to a sumptuous lunch.  I appreciated his effort in sending me off at the airport, and spent a good 1 hour chatting with him over many cigarettes.  Time passed quickly, and it was soon time for me to proceed for immigration clearance.  We exchanged well-wishes and a friendly hug, and we parted.

Immigration and security took a long time due to the large numbers of passengers.  I was left with only 20 minutes before STD by the time I was in the transit area of the airport.  I literally sprinted to the gate where my SQ flight was waiting.  The aircraft operating the ICN-SIN sector was a 3 class B777-200; 9V-SQH.

I was one of the last few passengers to board the aircraft.  A pretty Korean stewardess greeted me at the door 2, and I quickly found my seat at the back of the aircraft.

The flight was relatively empty, and only 60% full in economy, and I had all 3 seats to myself! We pushed back 5 minutes before STD, and the inflight safety video was started.

Take off was smooth, as we thundered into Korean airspace. The crew sprung into action the moment the fasten seatbelt signs were turned off. I flipped through the menu, inflight magazine and entertainment guide to help me decide what to eat and what movie to catch during the flight.

Bar service commenced soon after. I ordered a coke, and was handed a packet of Singaporean snack.

Dinner was served an hour later. I had the Korean style chicken as they had run out of seafood by time the meal cart reached my row. The meal was substantial, and included a tiny pack of Korean kimchi! I love kimchi!!!!

I fell into a deep sleep soon after dinner while listening to some music (this aircraft did not have AVOD), only to wake up a little less than 2 hrs before arrival into Singapore. I ordered myself an orange juice to keep myself hydrated....

The captain made his standard pre-arrival announcements, and ended it with "cabin crew prepare the cabin for arrival"!

We touched down in Singapore 20 min before STA, and I was glad to be back home, where my friends and families are...
